Organization Is The Key To Writing From Home
I work at home which means that my computer workstation desk is the center of my universe. I have learned that writing effectively from home means getting organized. It is far too easy to be distracted when your commute is a few feet from your bed.
By the time I sit down with my coffee in front of the monitor to scan my daily checklist I have done a few things. I was up at a certain time, showered and dressed. I do not have to put on a suit but I ditch the pajamas for presentable clothing.
I review all electronic mail and check for important mail that might have been diverted to my spam folder. I begin writing after my browsers and web sites are open and appear on the toolbar.
I use my first session to complete an assignment before the kids wake up. I schedule an interesting subject here. In the past week I posted articles about warehouse handcarts, the popularity of princess cut engagement rings, and marvelous maple bars. No breaks and no maple bars until I am done.
You must limit your distractions. Television programs and music playing may be a plus or minus. Operating my dyson all floors vacuum or laundry appliances may rob my concentration. My writing can benefit from some tv programs and music is sometimes the perfect companion to my job.
I make breakfast for the kids and start the supper meal in my slow cooker. The laundry is in the washer and the dishes are caught up before we head out the door. The dog gets a break at spot on the way to school. I run outside errands when I make the school runs.
I start a deep scan on my computer before I leave to pickup kids from school. I fold the laundry that I put in the dryer earlier and set out any side dish ingredients for supper when I return. While the scan continues I start homework.
The scan is normally complete by the time homework is done and the kids go to play. I write straight through to the supper hour unless we have after school activities. Organizing my day allows me to earn money, keep a clean home, and manage meals.
Expect to be surprised even when you organize. The controlled chaos at my house has created close connections with the family while I generate income. As long as I spend more time earning than burning, my wife is pretty happy at suppertime.
