Dell 3010cn - Miniature Size, Substantial Power
The Dell 3010cn color laser printer comes to us from the folks at Dell. This particular model delivers networkable, high-quality color laser printing for around the same price as a comparable black-and-white printer. For the small home-based business or office which needs a color laser printer for small workgroups, the Dell 3010cn may be the ticket. It also ships with Dell Printer Toner Cartridge; both color and black.
Specifications. The printer is no lightweight, at about 55 pounds. But that's well within acceptable range for a color laser printer offering what this one does. At a bit over 16 inches by 16 inches by 17 inches, it's also of a size that would allow it to fit onto a desktop or in a corner of a room in some home-based business.
Printing Capabilities. The Dell prints black-and-white pages at about 25 per minute. If you choose to print in color, you can expect about 5 pages per minute of speed. Clarity is fine, at about 600x600dpi. What's outstanding is the amount of pages it can put out before needing maintenance (over 45,000 per month). It can also hold 250 sheets of paper, and that can be expanded to 900 sheets with the addition of a couple of other paper trays.
Operating Compatibility. The Dell 3010cn Printer marries up well with most any Windows operating system, and also Novell or NT4.0 platforms. USB 2.0 and Ethernet ports sit at the backside of the unit for ease of access.
Memory Banks. With an installed 64 megabytes of memory, the 3010cn can handle most average home-business print jobs. If you need more than that, you can add memory all the way up to 576 megs. Given the wide range of memory points available, there shouldn't be a problem handling just about any print job.
On-Site Service. Dell's normal 24/7 year-long service warranty applies. This is upgradeable to 5 years, for a small price. The plan also has a home-user version, which is essentially the same in all aspects.
Dell 3010cn Toners. Using a Dell 3010 toner cartridge, the printer is easy enough to keep up and running. Installed cartridges are rated to a couple thousand pages, but longer-lasting units are available through Dell or several aftermarket cartridge makers. It's not unusual, in casual usage, to go more than a couple years before needing new print cartridges. When you factor that in, per-page costs can be relatively low as compared to similar printers on the market.
Summary. The Dell 3010cn packs a lot of features for not a lot of money, especially in comparison to what some color laser printers on the market are going for. Costing around the same as a good small business black-and-white networkable printer, the Dell will deliver reliable printing, good graphics and acceptable page-per-minute printing capabilities. They work with most Windows-based computer systems, and their USB or Ethernet connectivity is surprisingly easy to make work. Also, 3010cn Toner are widely available and relatively inexpensive.
