Fabric Embroidery, Collage, And Embellishment

What is fabric collage? Fabric collage is gathering inspiring pieces of fabrics or papers and joining them together in layers with an assortment of seaming, and needlework techniques. Choose from traditional seaming, appliqué or over laying raw seams for a contemporary appearance or felting. This forms a base fabric for you to embellish. You can make pleasant patterns or tell a story. Crazy patchwork is a type of collage with its roots deep in history. You can make books, wall panels, handbags, artist trading cards and much more.
Planning your collage – . Sometimes pieces of lace from a family member are added to the collage as memorabilia. Various colours can be painted or stamped onto fabrics. Some fabrics can be so bright that they scare me, but when layered with lace and sheer over top, a beautiful light glimmers through. To add more texture, dimension, borders, or highlight areas of your piece, embroidering with hand-dyed threads and ribbons is fabulous for the job.
Surface embroidery – You can finish off by incorporating some lovely Colour Streams craft sequins, stitching them onto your creation with seed beads. Colour Streams has flower sequins, square and diamond forms, petite 2mm wide and 3mm wide sequins in a wide colour variety. Your embroidery will have glints of light from these striking sequins. There are several people who collect buttons for sewing- old and new. Maybe you like to group together buttons of various tints, sizes and textures to create interest and other found objects such as old pearl necklace findings.
