Music And Television Box Sets As Christmas Gifts
It is that time of year again. A New Cover of Jingle Bells is playing on the radio and almost everyone has their pretty lights up. It's time to find some Christmas gifts for your friends and family once again.
I think box sets make great gifts and each year there are new box sets available for music, movies, and TV. This year the Newly Remastered John Lennon Signature CD Box Set came out to celebrate what would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. This box set includes Imagine, Plastic Ono Band, Double Fantasy, and the rest of his solo albums.
The Lost Complete Series Blu-Ray Box Set is also new for 2010. Lost finished its run after six glorious years as one of the most interesting series in TV history. It's a fantastic gift for everyone who is a fan of the show and an even better present to anyone who missed it the first time around. I would love to be able to go on that ride for the first time once again.
A complete series box set really makes a cool gift. Of course that's only true if it's a box set of a really great show! What follows are five television box sets that I suggest:
David Lynch's Twin Peaks. This show only lasted for two seasons and it is twenty years old now. But it's definitely one of the all time great TV series in my opinion. Twin Peaks really appeals to those who like things a bit out of the ordinary.
Freaks and Geeks. What is it with fantastic shows and getting canceled? This one only made it for one season. But it was a truly great one year. Each and every episode of Freaks and Geeks is a classic. Hilarious and insightful.
HBO's Six Feet Under. This brilliant show is a good present for any intelligent friend or family member. I think this is among the greatest television programs ever. It's about the most serious subject matter (death) but it's also very funny at times (usually in a pretty dark sort of way.)
The Wire. Another fantastic HBO show. I won't even start talking about The Wire because I'm worried it'll come out too over the top. I think The Wire is so great that it is hard to put into words. An absolute "must see."
Seinfeld. I've seen most of the episodes multiple times yet I still enjoy seeing them again. Might be a good choice for someone who was too young to experience it in the '90s.
